Word Death: Plunder

Hello Lovies!

I know it's been a while, but I'm baaaccckkkk!

Word Death: Plunder

The word plunder (and all its forms) is now officially DEAD TO ME!

The meaning of the word is as follows: "to rob of goods or valuables by open force, as in war, hostile raids, brigandage, etc., e.g.to plunder a town." (VERB) "anything taken by robbery, theft, or fraud." (NOUN) *Think Pirate 'booty'*

For years I have associated this word with theft and rape/pillage/raids (I discovered it in my teens when I started reading those historical romances/bodice rippers (Amanda Quick was one of my favorite authors!) Now over the past few years reading fanfic, this word is so pervasive when used by authors to describe kissing and sex! Wut? I.Shit.You.Not. Here are a few examples:

'I moaned as Edward's tongue plundered my mouth.'

'I moaned as Edward's tongue plundered my womanhood.'

'I moaned as Edward's manhood plundered my womanly depths.'

'I screamed as Edward's cock plundered my pussy.'

First off, I am NOT going to negatively comment on/snicker at the use of the words 'manhood' or 'womanhood' as I truly believe they are appropriate if the characters are set in specific periods/eras where those words were commonplace.

But, JFC, if I have to read one more sentence where SOMEONE is getting plundered it had better be some sort of kidnap attempt or Viking raid!

My gawd people, how can you think this is supposed to be sexy - 'I moaned as Edward's tongue robbed [my mouth] of goods or valuables by open force.'??? NOT SEXY!

STOP USING THE WORD PLUNDER WITH A SEXUAL CONNOTATION!!!! PLEASE, I BEG OF YOU!

Everyone got it?? Good.

TTFN,

Dazz

I gotta agree on the over and completely wrong use of the word plunder. I'll admit I use wrong words at times but that one is a given. Has ANYONE ever looked at the lyrics for A Pirates Life for Me! hehe. We pilage, we plunder... HELLO!
